  • Beschreibung: This film is based on the book of the same name by Nikos Kazantzakis. The shooting of the film took place in Crete and depicts a Greek village under Turkish occupation. Every seven years, according to their tradition, the villagers reenact Christ’s Passion. When the roles are assigned, Manolios, who is the shepherd of the village, plays Jesus. The preparations for the performance stop because of the arrival of some refugees from a nearby village which has just been destroyed by the Turks. The leaders of the village, however, refuse to help the refugees, whom they accuse of being infected with cholera. However, Manolios and some of the other villagers choose to help them - as Jesus would have.
